I was having in my mind a thought for the last one month, to visit, see and appreciate the natural beauty of Norway. And today, on the website, I came across this competition that can fulfill my cherished desire to travel Norway, and that too, free of cost. What a motivation to write and avail this unique opportunity. I would like you to aware myself of the type of writing required and its rules etc.

Deadline :18th of June 2012. max. words: 2,000.

    Hello!
Can two entries be sent by the same person?

  7. Hello, I am Dr. Lopamudra Maitra Bajpai- I am a Visual Anthropologist and an Independent Media Consultant. My first book was released in 2007 at the prestigious International Kolkata Book Fair (in West Bengal, India)- fiction, short stories, English and based on my experiences as an anthropologist and a journalist. It was titled- ‘It Happened One Night and Other Stories.’ It received very good reviews in a leading English newspaper in India- noted for its literary coverage for over 150 years in India. I am pasting this review below from their website-

Soft Cover: Simple Stories, Simply Told

    1 July 2007
It Happened One Night…is a collection of twelve short stories by Pune-based Lopamudra Maitra. She has studied history and mass communication and is embarking on her research in archaeology. She freelances for various newspapers and magazines. The stories are free of verbal pyrotechniques and too many pirouettes of plot. They generally follow a simple storyline and a linear time frame. What ties her stories together is the human touch- ’It Happened One Night’, ‘Mahalaya’, ’The Drawing Teacher’, are all simple, heartwarming stories simply told. And therein lies the charm of Lopamudra Maitra’s writing. ‘Mahalaya’ is about Uma, a one-month baby, who is found in a garbage dump by Minati, a maidservant. Minati brings her up until finally one Durga Puja, Promila arrives in the house where Minati works. Promila decides to adopt Uma and take her back to the USA. The story ends on a happy note for Uma, who finds a new home and set of caring parents. Unfortunately, it fails to explore the emotional crisis this imminent estrangement between Minati and Uma must cause. ‘Churney Road Junction’ is woven around a train journey and is marked by an effective use of contrast. The politeness and gracefulness of the poor little girl and her mother, who works as a labourer to put her daughter through school, serves as a foil to the pride and snobbery of the rich girl and her mother who take great pains to avoid the ‘commoners’ who travel by train. ‘The End of an Era’ is another powerful nostalgic story focusing on the bond between Chuk Chuk Chacha and Rani Laxmi, the steam engine he has driven for decades. The decommissioning of the engine marks the end of life as Chuk Chuk Chacha knows it. The most powerful story here is ‘The Drawing Teacher’, a sensitive tale of a boy who wants to be a painter. Against all odds, he becomes a successful painter, thanks to the pains taken by a reclusive old artist to teach him the finer points. The story ends on an O’Henryesque note with the old dying artist painting a masterpiece for his pupil. It is his way of congratulating him and telling him how much he has meant to him. Unfortunately, there are too many sentences that jar, and several typos. One wonders if the manuscript was edited at all. A pity, for some basic copyediting would have substantially benefited this collection. – Sayantan Dasgupta. LOPAMUDRA MAITRA Nandimukh Samsad, 2007; Rs 75

I know I am too near the deadline- but since I like to focus on culture and its various expressions- I would like to take this opportunity to take part in the competition- though I am yet to travel to Norway- but would like to explore a cultural reflection.

Will send you the story by deadline.

    Thanks and regards

Hello the Indo-Norwegian fictional writing committee
    Good Morning.
    Sirs,
I would like to know the number of entries in the competition,”In Your Shoes” competition considered fit for consideration before the deadline of 18th June. Really, the work done by me as has also been sent is haunting me day and night as it was an opportunity not only to avail of, but also to be remembered with fondness together with the zeal and guts it awakened in the otherwise dormant life of 65 years. Very best wishes.
    With highest regards.
    Gurmit Singh saini,
